Agelio Batle Bio

About The Artist

Inspired by nature and its organic forms, Agelio Batle creates sculpture in a variety of materials, most famously crafting intricately detailed graphite sculptures that also function as writing implements. A graphite sculpture of Batle's own hand, Drawing Hand No. 1 (1999) playfully fuses the artist with his medium. Other work similarly riffs on humble materials, such as Marble Soda Cans (2012), which look back on classical sculpture while slyly commenting on the disposability of tin cans. Batle's work has been exhibited at the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art and the American Craft Museum in New York, among other institutions.
