Alain Despert

Alain Despert was born in Brittany, France, and educated in Strasbourg. After spending several years in the southern regions of Provence and the Cote d’Azur, he moved to the island of Bora Bora in 1986, where the environment and culture of the South Pacific inspired him to begin making artwork. A self-taught artist, Despert’s work is characterized by brilliant color combinations and flowing lines. His bright and colorful paintings of everyday life in French Polynesia soon caught the eye of collectors and curators, and his hobby quickly turned into a full-time profession. He was convinced to move to New York City to pursue a career as an artist. Despert’s paintings have been exhibited coast-to-coast in the United States.
