Alice Quaresma

Up-and-coming Brazilian-born artist Alice Quaresma works primarily in painting and photography, engaging with topics including public and private space, everyday living experiences, and personal memory. In 2014, Foam, an acclaimed photography museum in Amsterdam, Netherlands, awarded Quaresma the Foam Talent Prize for her innovative image making. Across the board, her work demonstrates a unique visual language, one characterized by various layering techniques and unconventional stylistic juxtapositions—for instance, she has painted abstract geometric designs on top of black-and-white photos of wildlife. 

Born in 1985, Quaresma left Brazil to study fine art at London’s Central Saint Martins School of Art and Design. In 2007, she arrived in New York, where she attended Pratt Institute and earned her MFA. Quaresma has exhibited at a number of galleries in the United States, Europe and Brazil, and in 2011, she had her first solo show at Rio de Janeiro’s Mercedes Viegas gallery. She lives and works between New York and Rio de Janeiro.
