Alix Pearlstein

Alix Pearlstein approaches performance through the vocabulary of movement, reinventing art performance on her own terms and exploring what defines the practice. She aligns herself with Dan Graham’s view of performance art as something that is “neither one thing nor the other.” By involving actors with theater backgrounds in her work, she simultaneously complicates and clarifies the idea and role of performance art and addresses the question of reality versus illusion.

Pearlstein’s work has been exhibited at the Atlanta Contemporary Art Center in Atlanta, Georgia; the Park Avenue Armory and The Kitchen in New York; and the Contemporary Art Museum St Louis in Missouri. She is represented by On Stellar Rays in New York and has upcoming exhibitions at Whitechapel Gallery, London, and Ballroom Marfa, Texas. She is represented by On Stellar Rays in New York.
