Amy Cheng

Working across a variety of mediums, from oil painting and prints to mosaics and glass, Amy Cheng creates works that merge Western and Chinese sensibilities. As the artist states, "My work is about the heart’s longing to be connected to the largeness of life, the timeless arc of the universe. I try to evoke what Zen practitioners call nothing and everything. The sense of being one with the universe." Characterized by bright colors and intricate designs, Cheng's works frequently feature the repetition and symmetry important to Zen philosophy.

In 1990, Cheng was awarded a New York Foundation for the Arts Fellowship in Painting.
