Ana Cardoso

Multi-media artist Ana Cardoso’s formal concerns fall somewhere between collage, painting and installation. On the one hand maintaining the material syntax of disjunctive limits and excess, and on the other, using the architecture of the gallery as her frame. Forms and signifiers link and float, and the rawness of the space is made present in her installations. Cardoso works in the history of abstraction that concerns itself with the expressive potential of the process and material problematics in painting.

Cardoso has exhibited in a number of solo and group shows including National Museum of Contemporary Art, Lisbon, Longhouse Projects, New York, Múrias Centeno, Lisbon, David Lewis, New York, Museu do Cinema, Lisbon, Marianne Boesky, New York, Prague Biennial 5, Prague, Minimal Art, The Kitchen, New York, and Arpad Szenes-Vieira da Silva Museum, Lisbon, Portugal.
