Read MoreNoted artist and editorial director Alexander Liberman once said that Andrea Blanch, known for the sensual essences of her photographs, has "photographed intimacy better than anyone else I have ever seen." Blanch's photography inserts an autobiographical perspective to universal themes such as gender, class, and sexuality, creating a timeless aesthetic born through her quirky way of seeing things. She brings her life experiences into her work, manipulating the models, props, and settings to construct an image unique to her. Blanch studied painting in college, and through this training she gained a tremendous understanding of color, composition, and texture that applies to her photography. Her mentor, renowned photographer Richard Avedon, recognized Andrea's strong skill and relationship with color, and advised her to continue it throughout her career. The style of Andrea Blanch shows careful attention to the technique of aesthetics, as well as to the creation of a distinct photographic scenario that has gained her recognition and place in the photography, fashion, and art worlds.
Blanch has taught two classes called "The Fashion Portrait" and "The Art of Fashion Photography" at the International Center of Photography (ICP). Last year, she founded and is currently the Editor-in-Chief of Musée Magazine, an online art and photography publication dedicated to providing a platform for emerging photographers, as well as covering more established artists, collectors, museum directors, etc. Blanch is also the author of a book called Italian Men: Love & Sex published by Universe Press in 1999, which includes photographs and interviews.
