About the Work
Perfected Pillow is one of Andrea Zittel’s earlier works in which she experimented with domestic spaces and functional objects. Examining the “art of lifestyle,” Zittel's interest lies in the consumption of home goods and the concept of home “improvement.” In Perfected Pillow, Zittel takes our idea of the typical head pillow and upgrades it to a full-bodied, rug-like and fringed body pillow.
About the Artist
Andrea Zittel's art is a direct response to her environment and daily routines. She makes sculptures and installations relating to shelter, food, furniture, and clothing, turning basic living into experimental artwork. In the early '90s, Zittel produced a "Living Unit" to compact all aspects of daily living into a simple system, and she launched her corporation A–Z Administrative Services to make her usable artwork available to consumers. “The most important thing for me,” she says in regards to incorporating craft and design in her art, “is the way the work functions on a psychological level, how it explores desires, fantasies, or even fears.”
