About The Work

This breathtaking, gothic image by Andrew Moore features a view of the dilapidated United Artists Theatre Building and its decaying organ screen, which served as a cover for both the instrument and its player during the days of silent films. Here, Moore wrenchingly captures a small part of Detroit’s decline and fall into disrepair, decade by decade. The image is nearly monochromatic for the layers of dust and faded or destroyed decorations, hauntingly poignant, and sadly indicative of the fate of some utopian ideals, such as major Midwest industrial centers and artist-run ventures like the United Artists Corporation.
