Bendix Harms

German artist Bendix Harms creates confrontational narrative paintings and drawings based on his personal experiences. Harms elevates his narrative to embody universal emotions by morphing feelings like love, grief, and yearning into surreal depictions of anthropomorphic figures and animals. For instance, in the work Rote Trauer, 2007, Harms depicts a crying head with the word 'bye' inscribed in its tears. This dream-like work is emblematic of his technique, which makes use of a reduced palette and swift strokes to portray his daily experiences.

Harms’ work has been shown in group and solo shows internationally, including Hirschl & Adler Modern, New York, Anton Kern Gallery, New York, Marlborough Chelsea, New York, National Academy Museum & School, New York, Hudson Valley Center of Contemporary Art, Peekskill, Sabine Knust, Munich, Nationalmuseum, Berlin, and Andres Melas Presents, Athens. His work has been selected for several biennials, including Prague Biennial and Tirana Biennale.
