Bo Bartlett

Bo Bartlett is an American realist painter who creates dreamlike scenes inspired by his experiences and surroundings at his childhood home in Georgia and at his various residences in Maine, Pennsylvania, and Washington where many of his paintings are set. Influenced by the realism defined by Thomas Eakins and Andrew Wyeth, Bartlett’s paintings, which often include individuals from his everyday life, such as his wife, artist Betsy Eby, are strikingly detailed, displaying his rigorous artistic training and technical skill. Having graduated from New York University’s film school in 1986, his paintings also contain strong cinematic qualities, evoking a sense of longing and mystery in intimate scenes that take place outdoors, in bedrooms, or at family events and outings.

Bo Bartlett has had many solo exhibitions within the United States including at Dowling Walsh Gallery, Rockland (2010), the Ogden Museum of Art, New Orleans (2009), PPOW Gallery, New York (2006), the Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts, Philadelphia (2004), the Santa Barbara Museum of Art (2004) and the Frye Art Museum, Seattle (2004), among others. He currently lives and works on Vashon Island in Washington.
