    About The Work

"If I was an artist and I was in the studio, then whatever I was doing in the studio must be art," Bruce Nauman has said of how he began his career. "At this point art became more of an activity and less of a product.” In Verso Recto (state II) Nauman incorporates elements of his body into his art making process, the phantasmal shapes of fingers lined in two rows, “verso” and “recto.” The messy, smudged style and the blatant fragmentation in this print are darkly humorous and slightly sinister.
