Byzantia North

Byzantia North works with a broad range of media, exploring events that are transitory and elusive in nature; she is particularly fascinated with the traces humans leave on their environment. Regarding her printmaking practice, and the technique of etching in particular, North has explained, "Impressions and transference—this is what I think of when I think of etching. A desire to capture something and cut it into something more solid, more lasting, that can be replicated. A moment that can be played out the desired amount of times."

North studied Fine Art at the Chelsea College of Art and the Central Saint Martins College of Art and Design, both in London, as well as at the National School of Fine Arts in Paris during an Erasmus exchange.
