Chris Succo

German painter Chris Succo is known for his highly tactile abstractions, which evoke a certain musicality with sharp lines and strokes. Reminiscent of works by Christopher Wool or Cy Twombly, Succo’s style incorporates thick application of oil paint bolstered by scratched grids, scribbles and passionate gestures. His sculptural forms explore appropriative elements in steel and mesh, as well as spray paint and lacquered aluminum.

Succo’s solo exhibitions include Cabinet, Milan, The Journal Gallery, Los Angeles, Almine Rech Gallery, Brussels, Kunstverein Heppenheim, Robert Blumenthal Gallery, New York, RH Contemporary Art, New York, Rod Barton Gallery, London, and Galerie Fiebach, Minninger, Cologne. Group exhibitions include Beaux-Arts de Paris–Palais des Études, Paris, Schönewald Fine Arts, Düsseldorf, Museo Británico Americano, Mexico City, Charlie James Gallery, Los Angeles, and David Achenbach Projects, Düsseldorf, among others.
