    About The Work

Claes Oldenburg executed this likeable lithograph picturing an ordinarily banal object—a pencil sharpener—in the Pop artist’s trademark eccentric style, as an edition of 75. Indeed, as the title suggests, this particular pencil sharpener appears “soft”—in Oldenburg’s loose, comical rendering, the item’s edges are relaxed and floppy, as it takes on a personality all its own.
