1. What's your favorite piece in your collection?
I have so many favorites...a Clementine Hunter painting is among them. I always get lost in her world.
2. What are your favorite art spaces?
The Detroit Institute of Arts was my first school. I grew up staring at Diego Rivera's mural. Other than the DIA, my utmost favorite art spaces are artist studios.
3. If you had any amount to spend on a work of art, what would you buy?
Martin Puryear's Ladder for Booker T. Washington.
4. What advice do you have for beginning collectors?
Buy what you love. It becomes a part of your family, so choose carefully.

About Ingrid LaFleur
Born into a family of art collectors, Ingrid naturally gravitated toward visual art. She began her academic studies with a BA in Art History from Spelman College and went on to pursue her MA from New York University with a concentration in Museum Studies. As an independent curator and art advisor she focuses on contemporary art from Africa and the Diaspora. With over a decade of curatorial and arts administrative experience to her credit, she has worked with artists and arts organizations in New York, Detroit, Nairobi, Johannesburg, and a host of other cities. Ingrid has founded several initiatives to bring contemporary art to areas where the arts rarely flourish, believing art should be accessible to broader audiences. She is currently writing a layman's guide to art collecting and the art world. A world traveler and self-described nomad, Ingrid splits her time between New York and Detroit.

About The Collection
About 15 x 15 Rush Collection
I wanted to bring together an aesthetically diverse group of prints that represent a cross section of artists who have shown at Rush Arts Gallery. These prints by both emerging and established artists provide a glimpse of their current artistic practices. I enjoy how the works create a layered conversation and intersect socially, politically, and spiritually.
