About Muriel Brandolini

Designer Muriel Brandolini's unconventional approach to design has made her one of the most sought-after designers in New York. Her style and ideas are constantly being reinvented and consistently breaking away from the traditional. Half Vietnamese and half French/Venezuelan, her inspiration comes from her multi-cultural background and world travels. Her work has been profiled in Harper's Bazaar, The World of Interiors, Vogue, Architectural Digest, Vanity Fair, and Elle Decor, among others.

Muriel's first book, The World of Muriel Brandolini: Interiors, was published by Rizzoli, coinciding with a pioneering sale of her collection of decorative arts and design with the auction house Phillips de Pury.

About The Collection

About The MB Collection

I acquire art much like I acquire design: it's not a deeply analytical process. I respond instinctively to a work that I like and go for it, irrespective of artist or provenance...you have to learn to trust your eye.

Curator Q&A

Q&A with

1. You are a very well know interior designer. Your homes always feature art. Do you advise your clients in their art purchases?
I have been lucky enough to work with clients who are collectors and who have built strong art collections, which is always a consideration when I design their interiors. I consider myself far from being an art consultant, but rather would recommend the expertise of Dominique Levy at LM Gallery.
2. What is your most memorable art purchase?
My Sol Lewitt...which hangs over the fireplace mantle in my living room.
3. What is the first artwork you ever bought?
A massive George Condo charcoal drawing, Antipodal Shopper. It was wonderful to see his recent retrospective at the New Museum after all these years.
4. Is there any young artist you recommend?
An amazing young talent: Max Snow. He photographed the cover of The World of Muriel Brandolini, Phillips de Pury catalog.
5. You are selling part of your collection of furniture and artworks at Phillips auction house in a private sale. Why?
I am not a collector who puts things into storage. I want to live with and enjoy the pieces...or hope that someone else will!
