To mark the fair's public opening (it has been scoured by VIPs since Tuesday) and to give our members a taste of the fair's sweep, Artspace has assembled a collection of works on the site by artists on view at Art Basel this year. Representing work by in-demand photographers like diCorcia (above) and James Welling as well as newer star painters like Dana Schutz and Hernan Bas, these works are affordable entry points to some of the greatest talents around—and without the cost of airfare to Switzerland.

About The Collection
About Art Basel 2012 Collection
Today the doors of Art Basel, the oldest and most prestigious art fair, are opening to the scads of collectors and art professionals who fly in to see the latest creations by the world's hottest artists, as well as show-stopping classics from the secondary market (which this year include a $78 million Rothko at Marlborough Gallery and a $20-some million Gerhard Richter at Pace). The savviest visitors, however, will make sure to step away from the main fair to take in the Art Unlimited section as well, where this year Gianni Jetzer—director of New York's Swiss Institute—has organized a massive, blockbuster show of work by 60 contemporary artists. One of the most talked-about components this year is 1,000 Polaroids, a wall-devouring installation of photos that the great Phillip-Lorca diCorcia took over a quarter century.
