Now in its 11th year, Art Basel Miami Beach—the sister event to the eminently prestigious Art Basel fair in Switzerland—will be held from December 6th to 9th. Rowdier than its impeccably refined European counterpart, the Miami edition has been rapidly growing in size and popularity since its inception, and has turned into a must-attend winter destination for international art enthusiasts and major galleries alike.
With a focus on contemporary art, Art Basel Miami Beach will this year be showcasing over 2,000 works by artists from over 250 of the most respected and important galleries in Europe, Asia, Africa, and North and South America. With Art Basel Miami Beach attracting 25 percent more attendees from 2010 to 2011, and with the number of citywide auxiliary events expanding as well, one thing is certain: the fair is America's most exciting contemporary art event.
