Collect the Women of Postwar Abstraction

Collect the Women of Postwar Abstraction FEATURING HELEN FRANKENTHALER, AGNES MARTIN, AMY SILLMAN, AND MORE.

In the MoMA's upcoming exhibition "Making Space: Women Artists and Postwar Abstraction," the museum goliath will put on view their holdings by women artists who contributed to the radical revisioning of art in the aftermath of World War II and the failed idealism of many pre-war Modernist movements. Over the past several years, the contributions of women to postwar movements like Abstract Expressionism have been reevaluated by historians and curators, in challenge to the inherited narratives that artists like Jackson Pollock and Willem de Kooning led what were essentially masculine revolutions. Some women artists, like Lee Krasner and Grace Hartigan, have been canonized through major retrospectives, but here you can find works by more women who transformed art in the last century and who continue to work in abstraction today.
