The project is meant to raise awareness about the imminent extinction of the elephant: today only about 400,000 elephants remain, and if they continue to be slaughtered at this rate, they could be extinct by as early as 2020. Christo and Wilkinson have dedicated this series to their son Lysander, who loves elephants, saying, "What does the future of the elephant have to do with the future of childhood? Everything!"

About Cyril Christo and Marie Wilkinson
Their concerns about climate change, globalization and the future of life on earth started in the late 1990s as they witnessed drought, fire, and floods around the world. Their first book of photography in black and white, Lost Africa: The Eyes of Origin, explores the ecological and man-made challenges facing tribes from Ethiopia to Namibia. Their second book, Walking Thunder: In the Footsteps of the African Elephant, is a testament to the African elephant.
Now, traveling with their son Lysander, Cyril and Marie are working on a dedication to three endangered bioregions and their iconic keystone species—the Arctic, the African savannah, and the forests of India. This project is called In Predatory Light.Read Less
