Damian Loeb Bio
About The Artist
Damian Loeb is a self-taught painter who was discovered soon after he began his career by gallerist Jeffrey Deitch. He had his first solo show at Mary Boone Gallery in New York in 1999, and since then has participated in solo and group shows at institutions including White Cube in London, the Jablonka Galerie in Cologne, the Kunsthalle in Hamburg, and a 2006 retrospective of his work at the Aldrich Museum of Contemporary Art in Connecticut.
Loeb is known for his intimate, hyper-realistic paintings. His early work was based on pop culture images from journalism and advertising, and his later paintings explored cinematic stills, which he believe represent our collective consciousness. Most recently, he has used his own photography as inspiration for his paintings. His 2011 show at Acquavella Galleries, Verschränkung and the Uncertainty Principle showcased images of Loeb's wife Zola painted over the last seven years.
