Dan Lydersen Bio

About The Artist

Drawing from the traditions of Pop Art and Surrealism alike, Dan Lyderson creates oil paintings that meld historical references and contemporary culture, often with wit, imagination, and a satirical bite. Often critiquing social and political issues, the artist seeks to instigate a conversation as much as he tries to elicit shock and outrage. In Annunciation (2007), for instance, he establishes visual references to religious Renaissance paintings, while using such tropes to criticize the religious stance on abortion. Lyderson's work has been exhibited in a number of private and public collections, including the San Jose Institute of Contemporary Art.
