About The Work
While much of her work does involve the use of brushstrokes, Dasha Shishkin hardly considers herself a painter, instead defining herself as a “voyeur” through the act of lines and drawing. Layers of figures, startling use of color and erotically violent or perverse themes pervade her work, to overwhelming effect. The chaotic overlapping of fantasy and fetish allows Shiskin to create elaborate dreamscapes on even the smallest space. Hideous Potato, missed terribly, with likes and no hate is comprised of nine puzzle-like offset lithographs, hand colored, with interwoven imagery that can be shown separately or assembled as one piece. Spirited, disturbing, and meticulously detailed, this work is superbly unusual.
