David Kennedy-Cutler

The work of David Kennedy Cutler directly references the materials and symbols of the urban environment, incorporating Plexiglas, epoxy, resin, recycled motor oil, smashed compact discs and plastic sheeting into his diverse oeuvre. Many of these materials and allusions are taken from his neighborhood of Greenpoint, Brooklyn—a once industrial area that has experiences rapid development in recent years. Through physical manipulation of his materials, whether breaking, melting or rupturing, Kennedy Cutler explores the visual and theoretical collapse of industrial structure, capturing the “redemptive beauty in cracks, crags and unkempt edges.”

Kennedy Cutler has had recent solo and two person exhibitions at Derek Eller Gallery, New York, Nice & Fit, Berlin, and Halsey Mckay Gallery, East Hampton. His work has been included in exhibitions at Kate Werble Gallery, Socrates Sculpture Park, Dieu Donne Papermill, D'Amelio Terras, New York, The Weatherspoon Museum, Greensboro, NC; Luther Brady Gallery, George Washington University, Washington D.C., and Portugal Arte '10, Lisbon amongst others. Kennedy Cutler has received residencies from Dieu Donne Papermilll, the Lower Manhattan Cultural Council and the Elizabeth Foundation for the Arts Robert Blackburn Printmaking Workshop fellowship.
