David Shapiro

Shapiro was born in 1944 in Brooklyn, NY. He received his BFA from Pratt Institute in 1966, and his MFA from Indiana University in 1968. Shapiro has exhibited internationally, and his work is included in the collections of the Museum of Modern Art and the Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum in New York, as well as the Cleveland Museum of Art in Cleveland, OH and the Kunsthalle der Stadt in Nuremberg, Germany. Shapiro is represented by the Nicholas Metivier Gallery in Toronto, CA and the Bill Lowe Gallery in Atlanta, Georgia.


Shapiro draws inspiration from diverse textures, including Japanese handmade paper. Shapiro's prints are influenced by Eastern traditions and concepts, which manifest themselves in spirals, waves, and circles. The prints provoke meditative consciousness and tranquility through their repition and undulating patterns.
