David Hendren is a Los Angeles-based multimedia artist who applies a rigid and methodical process to produce abstract sculptures and paintings. In both his sculptures and two-dimensional artworks, Hendren employs structured architectural elements that conflict with or undermine other aspects of the work. For example, while his sculptures are deliberately composed of geometric parts, they are arranged or painted on in such a way that makes them seem almost haphazard. Similarly, in his recent works from his series In the Shade, Hendren paints horizontal and diagonal lines over vague, abstracted images (sometimes resembling human body parts) in muted tones to produce work that is ordered yet organic. Hendren has had work shown all over the United States as well as internationally in Berlin and Portugal.
