Inspired by the glossy spreads of vintage magazines and pornography, David Kramer's paintings frequently feature shiny cars and gorgeous women looking longingly into the lens. Alternately humorous and reflective, text plays a crucial role in his paintings: sometimes standing alone, sometimes surrounding accompanying images. "They always kind of seemed like they were images of adulthood," says Kramer, "What life was going to be like soon. What I really wanted..."
Kramer's work has been the subject of national and international solo exhibitions including Galerie Laurent Godin in Paris, France; Aeroplastics Contemporary in Brussels, Belgium; Pierogi in Brooklyn, NY; Tom Jankar Gallery in Los Angeles, CA; Pollard + Mulherin Gallery in New York, NY; and Heiner Contemporary in Washington DC. He is the recipient of the New York Foundation for the Arts Grant Fellowship and The Pollock-Krasner Foundation Fellowship.Read Less
