Dil Hildebrand

Dil Hildebrand's work centers on the architectural and constructed image. Often working in large format, his paintings mimic the scale and structure of architecture, framing the body in life-sized patterns. Inspired by ancient Roman trompe l'oeil frescoes and informed by a diversity of other influences and interests, Hildebrand's paintings explore this shared lineage of architectural formation with painted images.

Hildebrand’s work has been shown internationally in such venues as the the National Art Museum of China in Beijing, the National Gallery of Canada in Ottawa, Herron Galleries at University of Indiana, Choi&Lager Gallery in Cologne, Union Gallery in London, University of Manitoba School of Art Gallery in Winnipeg, Musée d’art contemporain de Montréal, AUT University Gallery in Auckland, and Museum of Contemporary Canadian Art in Toronto.

Hildebrand has been awarded a number of distinguished grants and awards including the International Residency at Acme Studios in London, the Canada Council for the Arts, the Banff Centre Thematic Residency, Conseil des arts et des lettres du Québec and was winner of the RBC Canadian Painting Competition.
