Reminiscent of the work of Bernice Abbott, this series is the result of Geraghty's travels around New York and Detroit with a 4x5 camera to commemorate the enduring beauty of the elements of a city that remain from past eras. Each photograph portrays a part of the world that has been frozen in time. Auto Parts speaks of a place nearly decimated by the decline of an industry; The Corner Deli reveals a small, symbolic oasis in the crush of one of the world's busiest urban centers; and Grand Central captures a pastiche of architectural traditions. With an eye for classical composition, Geraghty's works capture the nostalgia, energy, and isolation of cities.Read Less

Although his photos are largely devoid of human subjects, Doug Geraghty is able to imbue inanimate objects with a mournful, anthropomorphic loneliness through his skilled compositions. His images of abandoned buildings are as engaging as his pictures of a busy Grand Central Station, the latter pulsing with life and the former in the final throes of disrepair. Both symbolic and literal, these affecting prints depict modern life as a paradox of industrial advancement and stagnation.

Geraghty is at the start of his career, yet he produces the skillful, classic, prints of a traditional documentarian. With a formal education from New York's prestigious School of Visual Arts, and experience taking photographs since the age of twelve, this emerging artist is one to watch.Read Less
