About The Work

Part of his portfolio documenting the streets of Los Angeles, Ed Ruscha’s 1966 silver-gelatin photograph Sunset Strip (Gazzarri’s) is a test print that captures the sense of movement and excitement of LA in the 1960s. Collected in 1995, the suite and this photograph provide a portrait of the artist’s thinking process and the way that city and its landscape have impacted contemporary culture at large.
