Emi Winter
Emi Winter is a painter who works with textiles and printmaking. Born in Oaxaca, Mexico to American parents, Winter draws inspiration from traditional Mexican textiles as well as the sprawling countryside. Her prints harken to the sunsets of the Southwest United States and Mexico, with horizontal bands of color ranging from neon to soft shades of green, pink, red and blue. In recent years, Winter has begun delving into more figurative painted works, as seen in her recent show "This rock absorbs nothing so the water splashes around it and lands back on itself" at Ulterior Gallery in New York.
Winter is a graduate of the MFA program at Bard College and she received her BA in visual arts from Oberlin College. Her work is included in the collections of the Museo de Arte Moderno de México; Museo de Arte Contemporáneo de Oaxaca; Museo de los Pintores Oaxaqueños; Instituto de Artes Gráficas de Oaxaca; Museo Nacional de la Estampa in México; the Grunwald Center for the Graphic Arts; Hammer Museum in Los Angeles; McNay Art Museum in San Antonio; Portland Museum of Art in Oregon.
