Evan Holloway

The work of Los Angeles artist Evan Holloway approaches the West Coast aesthetic with particular relish, expanding on the fabrication, mysticism and do-it-yourself attitude that has come to characterize the California art scene. His sculptural work incorporates household items such as used batteries and light bulbs, in addition to more traditional construction materials like plaster and steel. Often working within a particular set of chromatic or sequential guidelines, Holloway explores alternative, non-Western modalities to create art objects with an eerie, mysterious beauty.

Holloway has been featured in numerous institutional exhibitions, including de la Cruz Collection, Miami, Public Art Fund, City Hall Park, New York, Hammer Museum, Los Angeles, The Artist’s Museum, Museum of Contemporary Art, Los Angeles, Center for Curatorial Studies, Annandale-on-Hudson, New York, Pomona College Museum of Art, Claremont, California, 2008 California Biennial, Orange County Museum of Art, Newport Beach, California, Institute of Contemporary Art, Philadelphia, Hirshhorn Museum and Sculpture Garden, Washington, D.C., and the 2002 Whitney Biennial, Whitney Museum of American Art, New York.
