Fahamu Pecou

Fahamu Pecou is an artist and scholar based in Atlanta, Georgia. His work comments on contemporary and hip-hop culture while simultaneously subverting it to include his ideas on fine art. Through paintings, performance art, and scholarly work, Pecou addresses concerns around representations of black masculinity and how popular images impact both the reading and performance of black male masculinity and identity.


Since 2005 Fahamu has been featured in several solo and group exhibitions in the U.S. and abroad, including solo exhibitions in New York, Paris, and Cape Town, South Africa. Pecou has been awarded several residencies and has received numerous awards, fellowships, and recognitions including the Working Artist Fellowship through the Museum of Contemporary Art of Georgia, the ARTADIA award and the NBAF Interpretations Emerging Artist Award.
