Gail Albert Halaban

Gail Albert Halaban photographs staged scenes of ordinary, unassuming people in their homes, creating seemingly voyeuristic and candid images. In her series Out My Window—also a book published by PowerHouse Arena—Halaban depicts people through the windows of their New York City apartments: a family in its dining room eating dinner, a girl at ballet practice, a man in his office. Halaban also zooms in on domestic scenes, particularly featuring women. In her series This Stage of Motherhood, for instance, the artist photographs the lives of wealthy suburban women in various stages, including pregnancy and life with children.
