Gisele Camargo

The work of Gisele Camargo combines minimalist and fragmented images with figurative and abstract elements to create mysterious, spatially ambiguous compositions. Her color palette mirrors that visual tension between the vague and the familiar—nuanced variations of beautifully muted greys receive a contrasting shock from a spot of a day-glo pink, cyan, or orange. The formal elements in her work are organized with an architectural sensibility, providing the viewer with just enough information to place themselves within the composition.

Camargo's work has been exhibited extensively throughout Rio de Janeiro, and collected internationally. In 2013, Camargo was awarded the Art Heritage Award from Iphan, and in 2011, received the Ibram Prize for Contemporary Art. She was also the recipient of Sim Visual Arts Prize in 2008.
