Heimo Zobernig

Creating a considerable body of work that includes sculpture, video, painting, installation, architectural intervention and performance, Heimo Zobernig critically engages with various modern art movements, including abstraction, constructivism, minimalism, post-minimalism, and conceptual art, as well as with architecture, design, and theatre. He appropriates various art histories in order to question the ideological position and conditions which underpin them, subverting and reinterpreting them with a lightness of touch and an economy of material means. His methodology is at turns playful, dry, witty, unsettling, and disarming.

Zobernig has exhibited widely in various international shows including the Museo Nacional Centro de Arte Reina Sofia in Madrid, Kunsthaus Graz in Austria, Kunsthalle Zurich, Essl Museum in Vienna, Centre Pompidou in Paris, Fundação Calouste Gulbenkian in Lisbon, CAPC Musée d’art Contemporain in Bordeaux, and the Tate St Ives. Zobernig represented Austria at the 2015 Venice Biennale.
