Hong Seon Jang Bio

About The Artist

Inspired by life's fragility and transient nature, Hong Seon Jang creates artworks from a variety of manmade materials, which include tape, metal type, aluminum foil, and string. Seeking to express the impermanence of physical existence, Hong's works frequently depict natural phenomenon constructed via ephemeral media. The artist says, "I create works that evoke a fundamental recognition of our space and environment and imply physical vulnerability in our daily life."

Hong Seon Jang has been widely exhibited in solo and group exhibitions at many institutions, including the Islip Art Museum, East Islip, NY; Smack Mellon, Brooklyn, NY; Dumbo Art Center, Brooklyn, NY; Socrates Sculpture Park, Long Island City, NY; Hangaram Art Museum, Seoul, South Korea; and PS122 Gallery, New York, NY. Jang received the AHL Foundation Visual Art Award and the Urban Artist Initiative Grant, as well as numerous other residencies and awards.
