About The Work
Artist Jim Drain has created a limited-edition sculpture, Shark Tooth (Mauled), to support the mission and artist-centered programs of Cannonball. A long-time fan of the organization and a part-time resident of Miami, Drain captures the histories and mythologies of the sea with this bronze shark tooth. Cast from a real, and frighteningly large, shark tooth, each piece bears the impression of the artist's teeth—Drain literally bit each mold—rendering each edition unique. Continuing his playful investigation of materials, Drain's Shark Tooth (Mauled) cleverly blends personal childhood fantasies with universal fascinations and fears of the unknown that lurks just below the surface.
