About The Work
Katrín Sigurdardóttir has created this edition for SculptureCenter based on her critically acclaimed work Foundation. Foundation is a large-scale installation comprising of hand-made tiles on a raised ornamental surface, mapping out the floor of a fictional 18th century pavilion. The process of making Foundation involved producing almost 9,000 tiles from hand made molds, following artisanal 18th century techniques. Each mold was used on average six times, producing close to 1,600 unique shapes. In this edition, four molds were utilized to make a cast cotton paper relief of sixteen tiles. 1 out of 100 parts depicts one out of one hundred parts of unique shaped tiles that are brought together in Sigurdardóttir’s Foundation.
