By using photo luminescent pigments, his feet, and methods of digital collage, Kelly Barrie creates layered, ghostly images that both intrigue and delight. His unique artistic process was developed after accidentally walking barefoot through his studio on backdrop paper, leaving dusty footprints behind. He photographed the results and began to incorporate these methods of physical manipulation into his otherwise digital practice.
To create each work, Barrie first starts with an image. He alters its appearance by using his feet, a rubber squeegee, and glo-powder. He then photographs the results in low light, giving him the ability to capture the luminosity of the powder, while revealing any irregularities that may have occurred during the process, like cat paw prints or a spider that may have crawled into view. He stitches these photographs together to create works that are haunting and mysterious.Read Less
