Kristoffer Axén

Kristoffer Axen is known for his moody, atmospheric photographs. At once cinematic and dreamlike, his dark, nearly monochromatic images of shadowy flâneurs and mysterious alleyways evoke film noir stills. However, Axen doesn't quote specific movies. Instead, he says he aims "to create a vaguely narrative world that is open and dream-like in its possibilities for interpretation."

Axen's exhibitions include group shows at Aperture in New York and Musée de l'Elysée in Lausanne and he has participated in photo festivals worldwide, including the 10th International Festival of Photography in Lodz, Poland in 2011 and the 2010 Rencontres d'Arles in France. In 2010, he was selected for Aperture's reGeneration2: Tomorrow's Photographers Today, a traveling exhibition and book highlighting promising emerging photographers.
