About The Artist
"I am more interested in the intricate social relationships, the exchange of behaviors that in time serves to alter our perception of the quotidian, the every day,” says Brazilian-based artist Laura Lima. She is primarily concerned with the human body, using it to question our relationship to the objects, people, and society around us and raising questions about the tensions between the individual and the collective body. In her four major series—Flesh = Man/Flesh = Woman, Dimensional Tattoos, RhR, and Vivia21—Lima subjects the body to physical difficulties and strange rituals, setting up bodily transformations and confrontations between the performer and the audience.
