Leah Tinari

As Leah Tinari states, “My work has consistently been based on photographs of my friends and family,” highlighting the intensely personal nature of her vibrantly colored paintings. However, these highly stylized, slightly abstracted figures caught in dramatic moments from daily life are, at the same time, universal, attesting to everyday concerns and events. As an expansion of her interest in how behavior changes in in front of the lens, Tinari's series Perfect Strangers is based on images captured by an interactive photobooth installed by the artist as part of a solo exhibition at Mixed Greens Gallery, allowing visitors to participate in her work. Visitors posed in front of a background of their choice, rendered in the textural style of Tinari’s paintings.
