About the Work
Like many of Lisa Yuskavage’s portraits of female nudes, the bodies of the women in these portraits are distorted and exaggerated, hyper-sexualized to the point of freakishness. Each nude in this set of five etchings represents a different “Bad Habit”: Asspicking, Foodeating, Headshrinking, Socialclimbing, and Motherfucker. The title is derived from a 1970 painting by Philip Guston, whose bad habits included drinking, smoking, eating, and painting.
About the Artist
Lisa Yuskavage, the premier "bad girl painter" of the contemporary art world, is well known for her highly sexualized paintings of the female form. Dreamy and pornographic, almost as if they were painted from 1970s Playboy spreads, Yuskavage's compositions feature anatomically impossible female bimbos with gigantic breasts, extended derrieres, and tousled hair. They daringly portray male sexual fantasies from the perspective of a female.
An increasingly popular subject of solo exhibitions at major institutions, Yuskavage is the recipient of numerous awards, including a Tiffany Foundation Grant and a MacDowell Colony Fellowship.
