Manon de Boer

Brussels-based video artist Manon de Boer uses personal narration and musical interpretation as means by which to explore the relationship between language, time, memory, and truth. De Boer is particularly interested in the process through which a film comes to fruition, and her works contain a strong element of self-reflection. By displacing the synchronicity between the image and the sound components of her films, de Boer often reveals the subtle layers that together comprise the work, thus drawing viewers’ attention the process and intentionality of the editing of the film itself.

De Boer has been the subject of solo exhibitions at Witte de With in Rotterdam, Frankfurter Kunstverein, Index in Stockholm, the Contemporary Art Museum of St. Louis, and the Museum of Art Philadelphia. Her work has also been exhibited at the Venice Biennial, Berlin Biennial, Sao Paolo Biennial, and dOCUMENTA 13, as well as at notable film festivals in Hong Kong, Marseille, Rotterdam, and Vienna.
