Margaret Lee

Margaret Lee’s work bridges sculpture and photography through the creation of handmade simulacra. Lee’s photography is born out of the seeming randomness of web experiences brought to order by her own aesthetic organizing principles. In effect, her work reflects a scattering and layering of screen scenarios, their dissociated logic of digital estrangement being the new normal. Whether creating an installation or a photograph, Lee’s sensibility speaks to a curation of conceptual balance in imbalance.

With Oliver Newton, Margaret Lee co-directs the artist-run gallery 47 Canal in New York City’s Chinatown.
