Maria Nepomuceno

Maria Nepomuceno was educated at the Parque Laje School of Visual Arts, the Faculdade da Cidade, and the Universidade do Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. Her biomorphic sculptures are rooted strongly in the crafts tradition and are painstakingly constructed from rope, beads, and, more recently, braided straw. She describes them as “primitive organisms that suck in air and emit vibrations that expand into the great imaginary sound of Ohm, the sound of the universe.” She was the subject of a solo show at the Paço das Artes in São Paulo, Brazil.
