Maria Piñeres

Maria Piñeres's use of freehanded needlepoint for her sexually explicit art challenges the traditional uses and stereotypes associated with her chosen medium. Using uneven stitches and unusual color combinations, Piíñeres transforms the traditions of needlepoint to create her provocative and cutting-edge images.

Piñeres has had a number of group and solo exhibitions throughout the United States, including the group exhibitions Pricked: Extreme Embroidery at the Museum of Arts and Design in New York and Celebrity at the Scottsdale Museum of Contemporary Art in Arizona, where she displayed her celebrity portrait needle works.
