Mark Goings

Working in watercolors and oil paint, Mark Goings creates photorealistic works that portray everyday scenes in a blue-collar California town. Driving around his neighborhood, the artist spontaneously photographs vignettes, later drawing inspiration from them for his highly detailed paintings. In one representative work, Neighbor's Garage (2011) a car's hood is propped open by a slab of wood, surrounded by greasy rags, gas cans, and mechanic's tools, capturing a single moment dominated by a focal object. A veteran graphic designer, Goings has seen his work exhibited at the Richmond Art Center and other venues.
